Nota de Pesar : Dra. Vicki Funk

Foi com muita tristeza que recebemos na última quarta-feira, dia 23 de outubro de 2019, a notícia do falecimento da nossa colega e amiga Vicki Funk. Estávamos no Congresso Brasileiro de Botânica quando soubemos da notícia. Vicki sempre foi uma pessoa com muita energia e entusiasmo em tudo que realizou. Ajudou muito a todos os brasileiros sempre que vinha ao Brasil, ou quando os brasileiros iam aos Estados Unidos ou a encontravam em outro país. Seu entusiasmo pela ciência Botânica sempre foi e continuará sendo um incentivo para todos que a conheceram pessoalmente. Seu amor pelas Asteraceae e pelas plantas em geral resultou em inúmeras iniciativas positivas para realização de estudos e pesquisas, cujos resultados foram publicados e ficarão para sempre entre nós. Sentiremos a sua falta como botânica mas, principalmente, como uma grande amiga dos brasileiros e dos botânicos em geral.

It was with great sadness that we received last Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019, news of the death of our colleague and friend Vicki Funk. We were participating in the Brazilian Botanical Congress when we first heard the news. Vicki was always a person with enormous energy and enthusiasm in everything that she did. She helped greatly so many Brazilians, when she visited Brazil, and this was equally true for the Brazilians who met her in the United States or elsewhere. Her enthusiasm for all aspects of Botany was always and will certainly continue to be a great incentive for all of us who knew her personally. Her love for the Asteraceae and indeed for all plants, resulted positively in innumerable initiatives, which gave rise to a variety of studies and research projects, which, in the publications that followed, will always be with us to consult. We will miss her more than we can say, not only as a botanical colleague, but principally as a close friend to Brazilians and to botanists throughout the world.
